Eva Shockey is proud to be a role model for hunters of any gender, but especially for women. She also relishes the challenge of her first mule deer hunt.
Under Armour Ridge Reaper’s ‘Snow Days’ episode features Eva Shockey, and it’s really an episode with a couple of messages. The first is primarily about Eva’s role as a celebrity female hunter.
She seems to fully understand her impact and influence as arguably the most popular female hunting celebrity on the planet today.
“I am so proud to be a female hunter,” she says, “because it’s something that wasn’t as common before. And now, and moving forward, it’s becoming acceptable. And more than acceptable, it’s becoming really cool.”
Eva has talked about being the daughter of a famous hunter—Jim Shockey—and what that means to her. She’s a sensible and thoughtful person, and a good representative for the hunting lifestyle.
After a brief session hunting geese, she begins her long-awaited mule deer hunt.
“I’ve always wanted to hunt mule deer,” she explains. “It’s been on my bucket list for years, and this is the golden opportunity to have a chance at some incredible bucks.”
They hike through a freezing cold, windswept and snow-covered landscape, looking for mule deer. It’s some rough weather to be sure, but she’s up to the challenge.
They stalk to within 150 yards or so of a fine mule deer buck, and Eva makes an excellent shot, dropping the buck within a short distance. Her first mule deer.
She returns to her earlier theme of being a good hunting representative. “My ultimate goal,” she says, “is to spread the word that hunting is an incredible thing. I want to be a positive voice towards people accepting hunting.”
“It doesn’t matter who you are or what you look like. If you love hunting and if you love the outdoors like I do, I want you to be confident. You have every right in the world to try hunting, to become a hunter, and to share how incredible hunting really is.”
