Elk Shot and Left for Dead on Vancouver Island, Two Men Face Charges

Reports of a dead and abandoned deer shot on archery-only hunting grounds have led to charges for two men.

A long list of firearms charges have been given to two men for shooting and abandoning an elk in Vancouver Island.

After calls of the shooting near Gold River, Nootka Sound Mounties and members of the B.C. conservation office were dispatched to the scene.

After speaking with witnesses who gave a description of a car, the officials were able to conduct a traffic stop and take into custody 34-year-old Xiao Wu and 51-year-old Song Zhang of Vancouver Island.

The men face charges of careless use of a firearm, possession of a loaded, restricted weapon and unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm. The investigation continues, and police say further charges of violations against the Wildlife Act are expected.
