Sometimes meals don’t come easy to animals. That’s what makes it even worse when this eagle swipes the stork’s meal away from him.
We all know what it is like to work hard for a meal. Whether it comes from hunting, fishing, or just a hard day’s work to pay for the food at the store, no one wants to have that meal taken from them at the last minute.
Everyone knows the feeling of accomplishment you have when you work hard for something and are finally rewarded with your prize. That is exactly what this Saddle-Billed Stork was feeling when he finally found a nice big fish to eat for his supper in Kruger National Park in South Africa. But, it turned out not to be quite as rewarding as he had hoped.
You see, the African Fish Eagle was also working hard to secure his own meal. It just happened to work out that it was much easier for him to “catch” the fish after the stork had already brought up out of the water. It turned out to be an easy meal for the eagle, and for the stork, I guess he had to head back to the water and start over.
I wonder if his stork friends will believe him when he tells the story of “the one that got away…”
