The best kind of duck hunting is safe duck hunting. The KATC news team in Lafayette, La., took to the field to demonstrate some helpful safety tips. 

We all know how exciting it can be when the birds fly over the blinds, but despite the excitement, that is no time to forget about duck hunting safety.

Mitch Samaha of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries went into the field to assist the KATC news team with some imperative advice on how to stay safe out there.

The next time you’re in the blinds with a partner and a fowl flies right past the both of you, be mindful of your muzzle and where your partner is before firing. This type of accident is common and it can happen to anyone, Samaha warns hunters.

“Even for some experienced hunters, safety goes right out the window,” he says.

According to this news report, almost 1,000 hunters are injured accidentally each year.
