Dog Reunited with Family after Falling into Rushing Rapids

Most dog owners have felt that panic of losing a dog. Then, there’s the joy when you are reunited.

Imagine how the Kareken family from North Carolina felt being reunited with their dog—after watching her get swept away by rushing rapids.

The family camped and canoed in early July at the Boundary Waters area of Quetico Provincial Park in northern Ontario.

It was there that the 7-year-old, golden retriever/border collie mix named Kali slipped and was swept away near Rebecca Falls.

The family searched, but feared the worst. Eventually, they had to move on.

Fortunately, the family had told several people about the loss before leaving. Two weeks after the incident, a camper found Kali on an island in the river.

After the phone call, Dave Kareken drove from Asheville to Quetico Park to be reunited with Kali.
