The 31st annual Devils Lake fishing tournament helped raise $150,000 for local firefighters.
The Fire Department Fishing Tournament held at Devils Lake in North Dakota raised $150,000 for local firefighters.
The Devils Lake tournament, now in its 31st year, is expected to keep growing with continued support from anglers and volunteers.
Approximately 4,000 people showed up at Devils Lake to go ice fishing and raise funds for the local fire department. The donations totaled more than $50,000 over the average amount raised in past tournaments. Almost 100 volunteers arrived in the early morning hours to help drill 5,000 holes. Organizers said about 100 fish were caught in the first hour.
Local lodging establishment, Fireside Inn and Suites, told reporters they expect to quickly book all rooms before next year’s tournament.
