Deer Makes a Splash in the 2016 Kansas City Triathlon

This deer wanted to swim with the triathletes – but ended up going the wrong way!

For spectators watching the 2016 Kansas City Triathlon, an unusual sight was spotted during the 1.5 km swim. Relying on its powerful hind legs, this lone deer held its own as it swam with the other competitors. Only problem was – it was going the wrong way!

The triathlon, held on May 15, attracts various athletes from across North America. And for this whitetail deer, it figured it might have a winning chance.

Deer are fast, skilled swimmer, and are able to traverse lakes and rivers at speeds up to 13 miles an hour. Good thing this one was going the wrong way, as it could very easily have taken the checkered flag!

Definitely a sight you don’t see very often.
