New Jersey Deer Freed from Glass Light Fixture

This buck was in desperate need of one unique rescue.

A deer in New Jersey found himself in a dangerous situation only humans could help solve last week.

The Monmouth County SPCA teamed up with the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife to respond to a call of a deer with a glass bowl stuck on its head in Colts Neck. The deer, a young buck, had been stuck in the bowl for as long as four days.

Fish and Wildlife officials tranquilized the young buck before discovering the bowl was actually a type of light fixture cover. The two agencies found the buck had suffered from several scrapes as well as dehydration.

Thankfully, they were able to remove the cover and the deer was able to wander off on his own once the sedatives wore off.

As for how the deer ended up in this odd predicament to begin with, the two agencies speculate the fixture was full of water at one point and the buck tried to drink from it.

We usually see deer rescue stories during the fall, but it just goes to show animals can find themselves in strange predicaments at just about any time of the year. We're thankful this story has a happy ending!
