How does your state rank when it comes to hitting deer on the road?
These probabilities come from an annual State Farm report about deer-car collisions across the US. State Farm determines the likelihood of deer-car collisions in each state using insurance claims data.
The regions with the highest risk of deer-car collisions are the Appalachian states, the Midwest, and the southeast. The state with the highest risk is West Virginia, which has a higher risk this year than it did last year.
These five states have the highest risk of deer-car collisions:
West Virginia – 1 in 39
Pennsylvania – 1 in 71
Montana – 1 in 75
Iowa – 1 in 77
South Dakota – 1 in 82
Here’s the data from the previous year:
So what are the odds of you colliding with a deer the next time you hit the road in your home state?
