Just give in to your doughnut craving, even when at camp.
Sometimes you just have to have a doughnut but you are in the middle of nowhere. Don’t despair, just make them at camp and satisfy that sweet tooth.
All you need is:
- 1 can buttermilk biscuits, refrigerated
- ¾ cup sugar
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
To make a glaze you need:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Separate the biscuits and cut out holes using the cap on the oil to make doughnuts. No one will know your doughnuts are actually biscuits…
Heat some oil in a cast iron pan and add a few biscuits. Fry the biscuits and flip them over when they turn golden-brown. Remove to a paper towel or plate.
Put the sugar and cinnamon in a paper bag and add the doughnuts. Shake well.
If you want glazed doughnuts, combine the powdered sugar and salt. Melt the butter and add the milk and vanilla to the sugar mixture. Whisk until smooth and then glaze over the doughnuts or dip.
Simple as that! Because everything you do in your campsite should be simple.
