When counting black bears in Florida, the Fish and Wildlife Commission uses unique and sometimes a surprising mixture of low- and high-tech methods.
Watch as the FWC uses footage and detailed descriptions to demonstrate the counting of black bears in Florida to provide an estimate of their numbers in the forest areas of the state.
What an incredibly adaptive animal the black bear is.
I got to tell you, I have been to Florida many times, and had no idea they had a sizeable population of native black bears. When I think of these guys I think of Maine, Vermont or Canada. It is really a compliment to these animals that they have such a range, from the deep south all the way into the north.
The one thought I kept having watching this was I hope they have a lighter coat for the summer because it can get damn hot in those Floridian forests and swamps.
