Columbus Cop Rescues Deer Fawn from Busy Road

A deer fawn decided to sprawl out in the middle of a busy street. That’s when this Columbus cop sprung into action.

Officer Matthew Mitchell of the Columbus Division of Police made an unusual rescue recently that involved a stranded victim of the four-legged variety. In this case, a whitetail fawn – which had tried unsuccessfully to follow its mother across a busy road, became tired, and decided to lay down on the asphalt instead.

Rebecca Wagner and another woman directed traffic while trying to come up with a game plan. They didn’t need to worry, as Officer Mitchell appeared ‘out of the blue like a super hero.’

Wagner made the following post on her Facebook page describing the rescue:

So this happened the other night. One of our FINEST from the Columbus City Police Dept. , Officer Matthew Mitchell, saved the day by rescuing this sweet fawn who apparently got confused and turned around when trying to follow Momma across the street. Then, she laid down in the street too tired to move. A very sweet young lady and myself kept cars from running her over as we tried to decide what to do or who to call.

Then Officer Mitchell appears out of the blue like a super hero! After making a call to his friend that knows about deer, he gently picked her up and moved her to safety where the momma could see her. We were assured that momma would go to her once she felt the coast was clear! What a nice moment in time.
Thanks Matthew Mitchell! You are a ROCKSTAR in my book!

Well done, Officer Mitchell. You most certainly are a hero.
