Choosing a rifle, shotgun or bow for deer hunting doesn’t have to be complicated. You can follow these tips to easily make an informed choice.
Choosing a rifle, shotgun or bow for your hunt doesn’t have to be rocket science. Here are a few factors to consider before heading out for whitetail this season.
In some areas, regulations define which type of firearm or bow you can use, which simplifies your decision-making process. Where I live, we are allowed to use rifles, shotguns or bows, so I’m definitely lucky. I use all three, as it allows me to extend my whitetail hunting from October all the way through the end of December; however, I definitely enjoy hunting with all three methods, as they have their time and place.
For those close-in hunting opportunities, I use a bow, and for my stands in wide open areas, I can get into my rifles. For carrying out a deer drive or stalking, I prefer my shotgun and slugs to get on target quickly in more dense brush.
