Check Out What Hurricane Matthew Did to Surf Fishing in Florida

Surf fishing is big in Florida, especially during the fall mullet migration.

But things changed dramatically after Hurricane Matthew tore through the coast.

Michael Hsiao and Josh Jorgensen fished the spot in the video in 2015. Each caught fish on every cast.

This year, after Hurricane Matthew, was quite different. Hsiao and Jorgensen, along with Scott Martin, returned to the same spot.

The water, instead of being clear and blue, was muddy with zero visibility and waves breaking over the walkway.

And the fishing?

The anglers were skunked, except for three small catfish.

After a few hours of no action, the three started getting silly. Be sure to check out the Happy Gilmore cast at about the 2:20 mark.

The next day, conditions were too rough to fish the beach, so the anglers headed to a lagoon. They did catch a few jacks, but they were small, and the saltwater fishing practically non-existent, Hsiao and crew headed inland to go after bass.

So, fishing after a hurricane? Not recommended.
