Check out Leatherman’s new wearable multi-tool: the Leatherman Tread.
When company President Ben Rivera was stopped at the gate of Disneyland for carrying a Skeletool, he decided to design a wearable tool that would be accepted by security.
Rivera, who started his career with Leatherman in the engineering department, came up with the original idea and passed it along. The result of the engineering department’s efforts was the Leatherman Tread.
The Tread is the first multi-tool of its kind. It is worn as a bracelet and each link includes two or three tools, for a total of 25. Even the clasp is useful, housing a bottle opener and a #2 square drive bit.
The Tread is made with the high quality materials and manufacturing methods we have come to expect from the Leatherman brand. Each link is a metal injection molded from high-strength, corrosion-resistant 17-4 stainless steel. The bracelet is customizable, giving the user the ability to rearrange the configuration of the links and adjust the fit to 1/4″.
If the idea of wearing a bracelet doesn’t appeal to you, Leatherman will also be making a watch version of the Tread. These will include the same features as the bracelet along with a Leatherman-designed and Swiss-made timepiece with precision quartz movement. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and non-reflective curved face are perfect for hunters and fishermen.
The bracelet version of the Tread will be released in the summer of 2015. Those who want the watch version will have to wait until fall. Whichever design you choose, you can’t go wrong with this new and innovative multi-tool from Leatherman.
