Twenty-five burbot are tagged in the Fontenelle Reservoir in western Wyoming. One is worth a cool $1,000.
An ugly eel-like fish which tastes surprisingly good on the plate, the burbot is a non-native specie to the upper Green River drainage in Western Wyoming. Since they compete with native game fish, including trout, reducing their numbers is one initiative being looked at.
The Game and Fish as well as Trout Unlimited are sponsoring a raffle, both to raise awareness as well as reward one lucky angler. Twenty-five burbot have been tagged in the Fontenelle Reservoir. Any angler who catches a tagged fish will be entered into a raffle to win one prize of $1,000.
The drawing for the cash reward will take place at a fishing rally at Fontenelle January 7/8.
