Buttons the Orphaned Elk is an Adorable Neighborhood Mascot

Near U.S. Highway 10 in Washington, residents are familiar with Buttons, the orphaned elk with a heart of gold.

Buttons may be an orphaned elk, but that hasn’t stopped her from living her life to the fullest every day. She is a friendly elk who loves to mosey up to people for a snuggle or two. The Daily Record stated that “she spends some of her time up on the hill near Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest,” admiring the seven chimps.

Recently near Cle Elum, some firefighters were taming a wildfire when she showed up for a visit. She normally hangs out on a hillside with a few goats and cows, and shares their affinity for hay.

However on this day, she decided to snuggle up to the firefighters, leading to some adorable photos. She’s all elk, but acts part horse.

The town is well aware that she could be hunted, but hope that hunters will be on the lookout for Buttons and avoid taking her.
