Build This DIY Kayak for Only $50 Using PVC Materials

If you have fifty dollars burning a hole in your pocket and need a new boat, you could make this DIY kayak out of PVC plumbing material.

We’ve all seen the price of a new kayak, and while it didn’t stop us from wanting one, it did make us cringe. Now with some ingenuity and a little elbow grease you can build your own and save a bundle.

Check out what one mad scientist built for a small amount of money and see if it’s for you.

While this little invention may not be for everybody, it certainly does work! I don’t know how far or how long you could paddle it without the same shape as a normal kayak, but it certainly will move through the water.

It looks to be about 10-feet long and made from 8-inch PVC. The front edge is upturned to keep the water drag down, and it has a couple of cross members to keep it stable.

Since it has an open shell I wouldn’t take it out in any rough water or in areas where there could be snakes or God forbid alligators, but with a little work you may be able to design your own around those problems.
