Bucktailing Tips for Catching Stripers

John Skinner

If you’re looking for a fight, there’s nothing like hooking up with stripers on a bucktail jig.

John Skinner’s specialty is finding and catching salty stripers. In his latest video he’s demonstrating how to properly fish water with current.

It doesn’t take him long to connect. Watch as he sticks fish after fish in this bay channel and learn from his proven techniques.

John does a nice job of breaking down the multiple variables required for bucktailing stripers in current. Water speed, depth, rate of retrieval, and jig weight need to be just right to get the jig swimming just along the bottom where these guys lurk.

It may not be the most visually interesting form of fishing, but the challenge of locating and catching fish in the middle of nowhere more than makes up for it. It also guarantees you won’t have to fish shoulder to shoulder with other anglers.

If you’re interested in learning more about striper fishing, pick up John’s book, “Striper Pursuit.”
