British Columbia Dad Punches Cougar in Face to Rescue Daughter

Ever punch a cougar in the face? This British Columbia dad went for a knockout in order to save his two-year-old daughter.

The Nielsen family were enjoying a quaint afternoon on September 21 in their Tahsis, Vancouver Island backyard.

Two-year-old Bree was sitting with a six-week-old puppy while they all enjoyed the views of the ocean before them. This peaceful scene quickly unraveled.

Bree was suddenly attacked by a cougar, which pounced from behind their shed. Her father, Travis Nielsen, was able to pull his daughter out of the way and punch the cougar square in the face. He then yelled at the cougar to “Get out of here.”

With the family safe in the house, Nielsen scared the cougar back into the forest.

Bree suffered some puncture wounds, including one above her right ear, one on her back, and a couple on her chest, but will be okay.

Conservation officers put the animal down and have set up traps as a precaution.
