These mountain bikers in Washington’s Capitol Forest got the fright of their lives. This video is extremely scary.
The Capitol State Forest near Olympia, Washington is a popular place for recreational shooting. As long as it is conducted in a safe manner (not shooting down roads, shooting into a backstop, etc.), shooting is perfectly legal in the forest. However, these mountain bikers had a close call with a careless shooter who was not behaving in a safe manner.
Check out the video captured by a GoPro camera mounted on the head of one of the bikers. The bullets happen around one minute in.
Warning: this video contains some strong language.
That is a textbook case of a shooter not obeying the cardinal rules of gun safety. Remember: you’re responsible for where every single one of your bullets lands, and you absolutely MUST be certain of your target and what is behind it.
Fortunately, nobody was injured. However, even though nobody got hurt, incidents like this really test the patience of the non-shooting public and portray all gun owners in a negative light. Nobody wants to be at risk of getting shot while going for a hike or a bike ride on public land, and the actions of a few negligent shooters like this guy could very well result in restrictions on where it is legal to shoot.
Keep this incident in mind and make sure you’re shooting safely regardless of where you decide exercise your Second Amendment rights.
