People are often confused about the difference between hunters and poachers. Luckily, we’ve got Shane Mahoney on our side and he does a great job explaining the subject.
While poachers are often treated as some sort of sub-set of hunters, the difference between the two groups could not actually be any greater in reality.
Sometimes this is just due to ignorance on the part of those who don’t hunt. However, anti-hunters often intentionally blur the line between hunters and poachers to help gain support for their cause. For instance, hunters like Corey Knowlton unfairly take a lot of heat from people upset about the ongoing slaughter of rhino in Africa when people conflate well-regulated, sustainable hunting with poaching.
Fortunately, just like he always does, Shane Mahoney does an outstanding job of explaining the subject in easy to understand terms. Check out the video to see what I mean.
Keep the points that he made in mind the next time you run into someone who doesn’t understand the difference between poachers and hunters. Help educate those people on the differences between the two groups and how hunters actually help wildlife conservation efforts.
