Big Blue Catfish Surprises Crappie Fisherman [VIDEO]

Lake Fork Guy got a whiskered surprise while vertical jigging for crappie and bass.

Justin Rackley, who posts as Lake Fork Guy on YouTube, posted this video on Christmas Eve last year.

He was vertical jigging for crappie and schooling bass with a 1/8-ounce jig head and plastic shad body. He was doing pretty well, too. Then, he thought he hung the bottom.

He was wrong. He’d snagged a bruiser of a blue catfish by the pectoral fin. He fought the whiskered beast for several minutes on eight-pound test line before he and his buddy wrestled it for photos.

They didn’t weigh it, but assuming Justin is roughly six feet tall I’d guess the length of the fish to be over 40 inches. A weight estimating chart from the Missouri Department of Conservation says a blue cat around 40 inches is pushing 30 pounds.

Quite an accidental catch on medium light tackle. That’s some big bycatch!
