The Tahoe community is notorious for living side by side with brown bears.
Bears in Tahoe are waking up from hibernation and are being seen more frequently roaming the neighborhoods. But they aren’t getting into trash or chasing pets; they’re eating the spring grasses surrounding the neighborhoods.
Tahoe residents know quite well to secure their trash cans in bear boxes and to lock their cars. Therefore seeing bears roaming the streets is a welcome site, rather than a nuisance. Caught on camera were two little baby bears that South Lake Tahoe resident Tammy Hoy was excited to witness on her street.
“They’re so fun to watch. We’ve never seen a mama with babies that small.”
The Bear League promotes living peacefully with bears around the Tahoe Basin, urging residents to deal with their trash correctly and to lock their cars.
“It’s an exciting time right now,” said Toogee Sielsch of the Bear League. “Bears are out.”
