Here’s why you should never leave food inside a vehicle when living amongst bears!

West Vancouver Police have a warning for residents that share their space with bears – don’t leave food in your vehicles. This comes after a resident living near Taylor Way and the Trans Canada Highway had his vehicle ripped apart by a bear during the morning hours of June 19.

The owner of the vehicle originally believed he had been the victim of a random break in, but after police investigated, it was concluded that a hungry bear was to blame. West Vancouver Police sent out the following tweet later that day.

Damages are estimated to be around $10,000 and include one smashed window, leather seats torn apart, and side airbags ripped. Food left inside is to blame.

“It’s something that I’ve seen in the last couple years especially in the British Properties where the bears are so active,” said Cpl. Trevor Griffiths about the photo of a car that appears to have been ripped apart.

Definitely puts a new spin on a teddy bear picnic.
