When the Bean Fields Are Alive with Whitetail Velvet

Justin Hoffman

It’s a sight we all love – bucks fattening up for the fall rut with headgear encased in velvet. This video should get you pumped.

There’s something about watching a whitetail buck chowing down in a bean field – with antlers adorned with velvet – that gets the heart pounding and the trigger finger itchy. And with deer season right around the corner, it’s a sight we have all come to relish.

While on a hike last week to put up a few trail cameras, I came across this velvety 8-point buck working a local bean field. Out of the five bucks I spotted that evening, this fella ruled the roost in terms of size and status – although there is a nice 11-point also kicking around.

Ready for deer season yet? Gotta love a whitetail. For myself, there’s no other animal I’d rather hunt – either with the camera or bow.

Who else out there is seeing velvet close to home?
