Bass Pro has further extended its influence in the fishing world with the recent acquisition of Ranger Boats.
A deal was signed on Thursday that officially made Ranger Boats part of Bass Pro Group’s vast network of outdoor companies.
Bass Pro Group acquired Fishing Holdings LLC owned by Platinum Equity LLC, which makes Ranger, Stratos, and Triton fishing boats.
Johnny Morris, CEO of Bass Pro, told reports of his excitement regarding the new deal:
This partnership brings added long-term stability for both companies and for the dealer networks that provide customers with quality boats at exceptional values. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Forrest Wood many years, and I deeply respect him and his family that founded and built a solid performing business with excellent products.
Wood is the founder of Ranger Boats, an organization that had very humble beginnings. In 1968 Wood set up his shop in the back of a gas station in Flippin and manufactured six boats. The following year he moved into a vacant night club and made 600 boats. From there, the company has changed hands a few times and grown significantly, and today Ranger Boats makes over 40 types of fishing boats including bass, saltwater, aluminum, and more.
Wood told reporters he’s happy with the new acquisition.
I’m excited for Ranger and the team at Fishing Holdings. Johnny’s organization is deeply rooted in fishing and dedicated to conservation. He’s made a huge contribution to our sport, and I believe this is a real opportunity to better serve so many dealers and loyal customers around the country.
Ranger, a leading manufacturer of fishing boats, will run independently under existing management. The transaction, however, is still subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
