A child of the Texas-Mexico border, a traveler and a lover of all things quiet and outside, Andrew McLemore is a freelance journalist and musician based in Austin, Texas. He spent a year and a half studying jazz at the University of North Texas before switching to journalism and graduating in 2010. He spent six years working as a journalist at newspapers around the state, including the Fort Worth Weekly, The Williamson County Sun, The Dallas Morning News and the Austin American-Statesman. At Wide Open Spaces, he focuses on conservation, environmental issues and their intersection with people who love to be outdoors for any and all reasons. He also likes to fish and hike, preferably with his shepherd dog Rio in tow.
