Australian Fishermen Shoo Off an 18-Foot Great White with a Broom

Meanwhile in Australia: shooing an 18-foot shark away with a dangerous weapon… a broom!

So what does one do when a Great White, 18 feet or so, starts harassing your charter fishing boat? If you’re like these brave Aussie fishermen, you simply push it away with a broom.

Seriously, that’s what these guys do!

There’s never a dull moment in the land down under, it seems. This guy must be related to the Australian fishing guide who patched up a bite with duct tape earlier this summer because he wanted his clients to keep fishing!

It’s good to note that this video does prove what experts keep saying in recent years: a quick punch to the snout will usually make a shark think twice. As frightening as they are, they don’t really consider humans a food source, so it doesn’t take much to dissuade them from attacking.
