Atlanta Police Officer Faces Leave of Absence After Illegal Hunting Charges

Investigations continue after an Atlanta area police officer is charged with illegal deer hunting.

Ashley Scott Kubiak, a police officer with Brookhaven Police Department, is currently under investigation by both his department and Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources for illegal deer hunting.

A sheriff’s deputy heard gunshots in the area after being dispatched around 7:35 p.m. on Nov. 7 following complaint calls reporting night hunting.

The deputy stopped the pickup as it exited Amy Industrial Drive and noticed both the hunting weapon as well as police equipment in the vehicle.

The sheriff’s report stated, “He advised that he had gotten off work at Brookhaven PD and decided to try and kill a deer for meat.”

“Kubiak told the officer he shot at a deer, but missed,” reports Online Athens.

Following further investigation by the DNR, it was reported that Kubiak’s truck had been seen only a few nights early in a subdivision where gunshots were heard. Kubiak states he happened to be in the neighborhood when he hit a deer.

Internal investigations continue within the Brookhaven Police as they gather further information surrounding the situation.
