The Natural State announces a 2016 alligator season.

Arkansas hunters will have a new hunting season to enjoy as an alligator hunting season has been announced.

The Associated Press reports 68 permits will be issued for alligator hunting this year. The season will have two different three day runs. The first will be from Sept. 16-19 and the second will be Sept. 23-26.

As is often the case with alligator hunting, the animals will only be legal to hunt during night time hours. All hunters must also attend an orientation class before a permit will actually be issued. All applicants applying to hunt on private land must also provide a map of the area they plan to hunt and proof of landowner permission to do so.

The Associated Press also reports taken alligators must be reported to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
