Angler Finally Pulls in Big Pike After Second Chance

This big pike almost got away, but a determined angler made it happen.

When Steve Rowbotham of Barrie, Ontario, headed out for northern pike on the May 2015 opener, he was hoping to land a big one.

He had one hit, but missed setting the hook. So, he waited.

Patience paid off for Rowbotham, who is a a recreational and tournament angler, along with being a fishing guide. He reeled in this 40-plus incher on opening day in Ontario.

If you watch closely at the beginning of the video, you can see him try to set the hook once when the pike goes after the bait.

A few seconds later, the pike strikes for a second time, and the fight is on.
