Check out this incredible HD video of a New Zealand brown trout leaping for hovering damsels above the water.
The video is titled “Damsels in Distress,” and was filmed by Filmmaker Simon Perkins of Sharptail Media. A combination of bad weather and luck provided Perkins with the opportunity to capture the rare site of a brown trout feeding above the water for damsel flys.
Perkins captured the video during a recent fishing trip with his wife and fishing guide Dean Whaanga in Otaga, New Zealand. A rainstorm forced the three anglers to abandon their fishing trip and drive home. After hours of driving, the rain momentarily let up, so they pulled over by a stream to see if the weather was clearing up for good. As they looked at the water, they witnessed an enormous New Zealand brown trout jumping out of the water to feed. Perkins knew it was a chance of a lifetime to capture a rare glimpse of the New Zealand brown trout above water.
“I crawled on my stomach with my camera to the water’s edge, hit record, and watched what was one of the coolest moments I have ever witnessed,” said Perkins on his Vimeo page.
Here’s the incredible footage. Make sure you watch it in full screen.
