Backwater Fly Fishing

DIY Fishing Video from Costa Rica

This video should be enough evidence to make you plan a DIY fishing trip to Costa Rica!

Costa Rica is a certainly a fly fisherman's paradises. I have had the pleasure to fish most of the country and landed some amazing fish along the way. Roosterfish, snook, snapper, machaca, rainbow bass and many more have all been landed during our time here.

While there are still some species that we have yet to target, our favorite species so far has been the machaca!

Machaca can be best described as a shad with teeth. They fight dirty and jump very similar to a baby tarpon when hooked! Our Walton Rod's 6/7 has become a great fly rod for fighting these awesome fish!
