Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has released a ‘Video from the Field’ showing amazing footage of alligator gar during spawning conditions in the Trinity River.
Alligator gar do not spawn every year as ideal spawning conditions are relatively rare. This spring has brought plenty of rain to parts of Texas and moderate flooding along the Trinity River and backwaters has created a perfect alligator gar spawning season.

TPWD officials closely monitor the water conditions for such occurrences and, since 2009, have been researching and closely observing Texas’ gar population. Texas remains one of the few strongholds for alligator gar in the United States.
