A woman reportedly sustained a fatal injury while butchering a moose.

A woman in Alaska may have died from a freak accident while she was butchering a moose, according to Alaskan authorities.

The Alaskan Daily News reports 60-year-old Vicky Mable Wontorski was butchering a harvested moose in Tok last Friday evening when she sustained a fatal injury. A call to 911 said she may have injured herself with a knife. Alaskan State Troopers are now investigating the death.

Wotorski didn’t succumb to her injuries right away. She was airlifted to Anchorage, but she died Saturday morning. Now an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

While all the details aren’t clear, it certainly sounds like she may have had a freak accident with the knife while butchering the animal. An incident like this should serve as a reminder to all hunters to be extra cautious when field dressing or cutting up the animals we harvest. One slip could mean serious injury, or even death.
