Traversing a busy road can be tricky business for a slow-footed sloth. Lucky for this adorable one, human help kindly intervened and saved the day.
A sloth lives its life at two speeds: slow and slower. So, as you can imagine, crossing a busy road can pose a real problem for these cute and furry mammals.
This two-toed sloth recently decided to do a bit of jaywalking, crossing a newly-opened highway in Quevedo, Ecuador that was ripe with speeding cars. Luck was on its side, however, as it successfully traversed to the crash barrier in the middle of the road before deciding it was best not to tempt fate any further.
Transit police were called and upon arriving, found the frightened animal tightly hugging a metal pole in the median, its large claws clinging on for dear life.
The ‘smiling’ sloth was successfully rescued, and after a check-up at the vet, was released safely to the wild and far from the bustle of busy streets.
No word whether the sloth was cited for jaywalking.
