It’s your fishing partner’s biggest walleye of the year… and your net buckles and breaks. What would you do to save the day?
Ashley Rae has witnessed her share of unexpected occurrences when working the water with fishing rod in hand. But this latest folly, which happened on November 27, was definitely a first for this experienced and accomplished angler.
While trolling the expansive waters of the Bay of Quinte, located in Ontario, Canada, Rae’s fishing partner Eric Riley hooked up with a trophy-sized fish. Nothing seems out of the ordinary as the fight ensues, but as Rae scoops the ten-pound walleye up and out of the water, is when things go horribly wrong.
As you’ll see, when it’s your fishing partner’s biggest walleye of the year, you throw caution to the wind and do your best to save the day:
Talk about a save! Rae was wearing ice fishing gloves at the time, and hey, if you can lip a largemouth, then why not a trophy walleye as well!
The incredulous laughter was a sure sign that both anglers couldn’t believe what just happened. And you have to love when Riley shouts out:
“That’s on video, too! That’s on video!”
This isn’t hockey, but if it had been, Rae’s save percentage would be a perfect 100.
