Photographer Jesse Burke has been documenting his daughter Clover’s exploration in the wild for the past few years. What follows is an exceptional series of photographs in Wild and Precious.
The lessons learned from the natural world are plentiful and as old as the Earth itself. It’s quite literally where we come from, and taking care to come back to nature time and time again is incredibly soothing for the soul. We can all agree that passing down a love for nature and conservation is one of the most important gifts we can give the next generation.
Photographer Jesse Burke, whose homepage is here, is doing just that for his three daughters and is documenting his eldest daughter’s growth in the environment.
The photographs depict his daughter Clover over a five-year period, discovering nature one road trip or exploration session at a time. She encounters the sea, the mountains, and beautiful animals.
The focus of these images are often Clover and the natural setting around her, and the simplicity of the photographs themselves let that relationship take center stage.
The project is described on Jesse Burke’s Wild and Precious page as:
“To encourage a connection between his child and nature, Burke used these adventures to give her an education that he considers essential—one that develops appreciation, respect, conservation, and self-confidence.”
Watching Clover interact with her surroundings unveils this truly primal and instinctual part of the human spirit that is within all of us.
This beautiful set of photographs captures the essence of life across the environment and how we as humans interact with it. Learning about nature produces a series of lessons that, in turn, enlighten our paths for the rest of our lives.
Ultimately, though, what Wild and Precious highlights is the bond not only between Clover and nature, but also Clover and Jesse – that unmistakeable bond a young child has with her father. The truth that comes from these images is authentic and inspiring.
