Texas Bookstore Offers Open Carry Discount to Customers Responsibly Carrying

An Austin, Texas bookstore is now offering an open carry discount: 10 percent off for all open-carrying customers.

Brave New Books, a local bookstore next to the University of Texas campus, will offer a 10 percent open carry discount on purchases to all customers who are open-carrying while shopping in the store.

They are the “only bookstore in Austin to allow open-carry.” This decision is meant to encourage public conversation on gun ownership. On January 30, they held an open-carry symposium so all residents could learn more about the process and legislation behind the decision.

The general manger, John Bush, told KVUE, “We appreciate it when people take security and defense into their own hands…it’s up to we the people to protect our community.”

This open carry discount decision also juxtaposes itself against Austin’s Half-Price Books and Book People strictly saying that customers open-carrying are not allowed in their stores. However, Brave New Books joins Brooks Place, a “Houston-area barbecue joint” that also offers a 25 percent discount to customers open-carrying.
