9 Star Wars Quotes for Outdoorsmen to Remember

Remember these Star Wars quotes next time you’re in the woods or on the water.

With the latest Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, finally released, the world is ablaze with light sabers and the love of The Force once again. Even though not everyone is obsessed with the movies, we can all agree that some of the lines spoken from the characters should truly be remembered.

Here are nine quotes from various Star Wars movies that even us sportsmen can use while hunting and fishing.

1.  “Your eyes can deceive you; don’t trust them.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi; Episode IV: A New Hope

Sometimes we block out our other senses while hunting and rely solely on spotting game. Don’t forget to sit back and take a breath. Close your eyes and take everything else in, you may find you missed a noise queuing you off to your games approach or direction.

2. “Try not. Do-or do not. There is no try.”

Yoda; Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

I feel like saying this to my kids all the time when they are practicing their shooting or archery. I’ll be going out to shoot myself and ask, “Do you want to come practice with me?” Their response with a screen in their face, “I’ll try to get out in a minute.” Either come practice so you can go hunting or don’t.

3. “In my experience there’s no such thing as luck.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi; Episode IV: A New Hope

In both hunting and fishing, you really make your own luck. If you put the time and effort in scouting and researching, it will pay off eventually. Just ask any of the pros.

4. “Never tell me the odds.”

Han Solo; Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

This is a great retort if you are a public land hunter. Everyone always likes to bring up the odds of you getting a deer, turkey, or whatever with all the other hunters out there too. Don’t worry about the odds, just get out there and get it.

5. “There’s always a bigger fish.”

Qui-Gon Jinn; Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Remember this the next time your fishing buddy nabs a decent sized fish. Don’t get discouraged as there is always a bigger one out there somewhere.

6. “I find you lack of faith disturbing.”

-Darth Vader; Episode IV: A New Hope

We all have that one friend or relative who, while out hunting or fishing, tries to jinx the whole trip after a few hours of no action. They try to convince everyone to pack up and head home instead of laying in there and waiting it out. Throw this quote at them the next time it happens for a good laugh at the least.

7. “You must unlearn what you have learned.”

-Yoda; Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

With constantly changing and new techniques for doing things coming out, we sometimes overlook them and continue to do things the same old way. Sometimes we need to look into these newer ways to cast, shoot, or whatever and give them a shot. Even if it is the same technique, just a little different.

8. “Remember, concentrate on the moment. Feel, don’t think. Trust your instincts.”

-Qui-Gon Jinn; Episode I: The Phantom Menace

It is really easy to overthink things in the moment, especially when a big buck walks into view. At these times, we need to learn to completely trust ourselves and clear our minds before taking that shot.

9. “Always pass on what you have learned.”

Yoda; Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

This is probably the most important quote of the bunch. Every sportsmen needs to find someone to pass on their knowledge to so that our passions will continue to live on through them, and the next generation.

At the end of the day even if you don’t buy into the whole Star Wars idea, at least remember these quotes and the lessons you can learn from them. You never know, they just might make you a better sportsmen or help you train your own little padawan.

May the force be with you!
