9-Point Pet Deer Gores Giles County Virginia Man

A Virginia man was seriously injured by his 9-point pet deer.

Paul "Chappy" Baker and his wife, Tammie, raised the pet whitetail buck since it was a fawn. The 9-point pet deer decided to attack Baker at his home near Pearisburg for approximately 10-minutes giving him several bruises, cuts and lacerations before his wife shot the deer with a pistol

Baker is a veteran member of the Giles County Board of Supervisors. He was hospitalized according to Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

VDGIF's Outreach Director, Lee Walker, said the deer had been living around the home for four years, and he's not sure what caused the attack.

The VGDIF collected brain samples from the deer, but concluded that the deer did not have rabies.

Baker's injuries, thankfully, were not life-threatening. However, this should be received as a warning that wild animals should not be domesticated, no matter how cute they are.
