With help from the Iowa DNR, these tips will make you a panfishing pro.
1. Master Your Bait
Use properly sized bait like small jigs or twister tails (1/32nd or 1/64th ounce) suspended 24 inches under a small bobber.
2. Think Small
Employ a 2- or 4-pound test line with light lures and reels.
3. Follow the Sun
Smaller ponds are warmer in the spring, and as such have more activity.
4. Love Thy Stump
Areas near tree roots, brush piles, and stumps can be panfishing hotspots.
5. Listen to the Wind
Typically the side on the side of lake where the wind blows in, the water is warmer.
