TheState.com ran more on the story, reporting that it was first seen at South Beach near mile marker 10 about 8 a.m. Monday.

It took 40 minutes to restrain the nearly 800-pound gator, and though South Carolina Department of Natural Resources regulations typically say gators captured this way are to be destroyed, the management crew mentioned they would push for relocation.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve seen emerge from the surf while at the beach?
