It’s that time of year. That’s right. The dreaded costume party. Whether it’s for work or with family or friends, some people just don’t like costume parties. There are those that hate the idea of dressing up. Others can’t come up with a good idea. Incorporate your guns and gear into your costume some how to add to the realism.

Dressing up in a costume can be fun. We did it as kids and had a blast so why not do it as an adult? For one night a year, you can dress up and be someone else for a while. Sometimes you have the props you need right in your gun room.

If you use a real gun in your costume, make sure it is unloaded and safe. If you plan on consuming adult beverages, leave the gun at home and get a toy one. Some states allow open carry of firearms, some do not. A concealed carry permit may be needed to conceal a gun. Please be safe and smart if using a real gun in your costume.

Cowboy/Cowgirl

 Fancy Dress and Party

An easy classic, the cowboy or cowgirl is always a hit. Grab a couple of revolvers and put them in a western style holster with a leather belt, add a cowboy hat, some chaps and a bolo tie and you can be riding the range and dreaming of home. This is also a great couple’s costume as you both could be old western gunslingers.

Marine/Army/Military

Any military branch is a good one and easy one to pull off. Head off to an army surplus store and get some BDU’s, a flak jacket and some mag pouches. Grab a pair of old boots and add an AR-15 and you are ready to battle the forces that would want to do us harm. This is a great costume for kids too. They always want to be a hero. A plastic M-16 or AR-15 replica would work great for them.

1920s Gangster/Mobster

Yeah, see. You can be part of the mob too, see. We are going to make you an offer you can’t refuse. Grab a Thompson submachine gun or a 1920s era Smith and Wesson .38 Special revolver and you can be the talk of the town, sweetheart. Pinstripe suite and white fedoras are optional. Just pray you don’t sleep with the fishes.

Competition Shooter

AmmoLand

Are you a competition shooter? Your costume is already set. Strap on your gear and make a sponsored shirt. Go as Max Michel, Doug Koening or Julie Golob. Or even go as yourself. This one only garners points with your other shooting friends.

Indiana Jones

We all dream of adventure and Indiana Jones has been an icon of taking off and finding treasure, intrigue and enemies. Find the golden idol or protect the Ark of the Covenant with an old brown fedora, a bull whip and a pistol.

Seeley Booth

Seeley Booth, from the TV series Bones, is an FBI agent assigned as the liaison between the FBI and the Jeffersonian Institute. Get a cross-draw holster, a black suit and tie and a “cocky” belt buckle and you will look like the legendary FBI agent himself. Convince your significant other to dress as Temperance Brennen and you have a great couple’s costume.

Dirty Harry

Wikimedia

“Dirty” Harry Callahan, played by Clint Eastwood, is known for using one of the most powerful handguns in the world. At least at the time. He carried the Smith and Wesson Model 29 .44 Magnum with a 6-inch barrel. A messed up suit, a shoulder holster rig and a .44 magnum revolver and you are ready for the mean streets of San Francisco. That is, if you feel lucky, punk…Well do ya?

Lara Croft, Tomb Raider

Sexy, skillful and tough as nails, she is an adventurer throughout time. In the movies, Angelina Jolie uses 2 Heckler & Koch USP 9mm match pistols with stainless slides. They also have the H&K Flared mag well and 18 round magazines. She keeps them holstered in thigh length drop holsters. Short shorts, a tank top and hiking boots and you too can raid the tombs of pharaohs of times past this Halloween.

Trinity

Fiesta Magic

Trinity from the Matrix is yet another relatively easy costume to pull off. Pretty much any black polymer gun will work for Trinity. You just will probably need to work to find the black leather long coat and some boots. Sunglasses are a must since seeing your target is not important in the Matrix.

Deer Hunter

If you are a hunter, find your hunting camo and go as the great hunter you are. Shotguns or even a bow is a bonus accessory.
